78-year-old man killed after motorist drives through stop sign

A fatal motor vehicle accident can strike any Pennsylvania family at any time. Indeed, almost all of us drive or ride in an automobile every day, and even if we don't, we will be in the presence of vehicles when walking or riding bicycles during the day. As such, the dangers and risks associated with vehicles and being involved in a fatal crash, or knowing someone who has, are faced by everyone.

In one such incident involving three vehicles last Wednesday, a 78-year-old man from Mechanicsburg was killed. The crash happened at approximately 9:34 a.m. in West Pennsboro Township. According to police, the accident happened after a 19-year-old motorist drove through a stop sign directly into the path of a vehicle being driven by a 31-year-old woman.

After the first collision, a third vehicle driven by the 78-year-old man collided with the first two vehicles, which had young children as passengers. The young passengers included the 19-year-old man's 3-year-old son, and the 31-year-old woman's 4-year-old daughter.

Tragically, the older man did not survive the collision and he was pronounced dead at the crash site. All the other drivers and their young passengers survived the incident, but authorities say that all of the surviving parties had minor injuries.

Pennsylvania authorities are continuing to investigate exactly how this accident may have occurred. At this time, there is no word as to what kinds of charges will be faced by the driver who allegedly passed through the stop sign without stopping, nor is it known if any of the other drivers will be charged.

Family members of Pennsylvania residents killed by negligent and/or unlawful motorists may have strong legal claims that they can pursue against the at-fault party or parties in the crash that claimed their loved one's life. If successfully navigated, such wrongful death lawsuits could bring family members financial compensation for end of life expenses, lost family income, emotional pain and suffering and more.
