8-year-old pedestrian gets hurt during Pittsburgh police chase

An 8-year-old girl was seriously injured in a car crash caused by a vehicle that was fleeing officers last week. At approximately 10:40 p.m., on July 2, police spotted a vehicle traveling the wrong way down the road in Pittsburgh's Knoxville neighborhood. They quickly pursued the vehicle to pull the driver over.

Officers say that the car had a flat tire and other damage while it was going the wrong way down Matthews Avenue. As officers approached the car, it refused to stop. Instead, it led them on a slow chase. Police say the vehicle was only traveling at approximately 25 mph.

The fleeing vehicle eventually crashed into a pickup truck that was unoccupied and parked on the side of the road. The collision caused the truck to moved up onto the sidewalk and strike the 8-year-old girl. She had been standing on the sidewalk. Emergency workers rushed to the scene and transported the girl to Children's Hospital, where her condition was last described as stable.

Authorities suspect that three individuals were inside the wrong way driving car at the time of the crash. All of them ran away from the scene. At this time, authorities have yet to apprehend them. Nevertheless, police claim that they know who they were and that one of them is a juvenile. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.

When a driver fleeing the police hits and injures a pedestrian in Pittsburgh, the pedestrian will have the ability to hold that driver financially accountable for the damages and injuries he or she caused. If successfully navigated, such a personal injury claim could bring an injured pedestrian money to pay for medical care and other damages related to the incident.
